Fenton, MO – Six teams competed in three different division for a chance to be crowned 2017 state champions on Sunday at the Fenton Forum.
In the Junior High 3 division championship the #1 Affton Cougars took on the #3 Rockwood Summit Falcons.  These two teams met just once in the regular season with the Cougars winning that matchup back on March 11th by the score of 8-4.  It was more of the same in the JH3 state championship game as Affton had seven first period goals to take a 7-3 lead into the second period.  The Falcons would only get outscored by one in the second but fell 10-5 against the Cougars.  Affton is the 2017 Junior High 3 State Champions!
The Junior High 2 championship was a thriller as the #3 Linbergh Flyers matched up against the #4 Fort Zumwalt South Bulldogs.  These two teams played each other back on April 7th with the Flyers winning that contest 6-4.  Lindbergh started the scoring just seven seconds into the first period and that would be the only goal scored in the period as it was a tight defensive battle.  The Bulldogs struck first just 21 seconds into the second period, then both teams would tally two quick goals to make the score 3-3 midway through the second period.  The Flyers would get their lead back but it only lasted 53 seconds as the Bulldogs would again tie the game up at 4-4.  It was looking like overtime was inevitable but with 22 seconds remaining in the second period, Lindbergh’s Ashton Patrick scored and gave the Flyers the 2017 Junior High 2 State Championship!
The #1 Rockwood Summit Falcons squared off against #3 Hazelwood Wildcats in the Junior High 1 championship game.  These two teams played each other back on April 23rd with the Falcons defeating the Wildcats 9-5.  It looked to be a making of a great game in the first period as both teams traded goals but the Wildcats would take the 3-2 lead heading into the second period.  Hazelwood’s Dillon Meyer scored all three of their goals in the first period.  It was all Rockwood Summit in the second period as the Falcons would score six unanswered goals and defeat the Wildcats 8-3.  The Falcon’s Ben Wouri would get the game winning goal as Rockwood Summit outshot Hazelwood and claimed the 2017 Junior High 1 State Championship!
