MOIHA All Star game and Year End Party

April 18th, 2008

MOIHA is happy to announce the 2008 All Star game and Year End Party will be the same night, May 9th at Midwest Sport Hockey. We will have the All Star event starting at 7:00 pm and it will lead into a great night of fun with the Year End party. Plan ahead for a special night when we induct the newest members of the MOIHA Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees are Tom Micks and the Maroon family; Phil, Justin, Pat, Patty, and big Phil. Tom Micks was originally a referee with MOIHA and graduated to the title of Head Referee. Tom set the standard for the refs and was one of the finest guys I have worked with in MOIHA. Micks is now with Fort Zumwalt West as a coach and manager and continues to make a difference. The Maroons speak for themselves. Patty is one of the hardest working moms in the business and she has raised 3 great boys. Big Phil is one of roller hockey’s biggest fans and is also a big reason his boys are all great players. Phil, Justin, and Pat were all essential in making the Oakville program what it is today. You cannot mention Oakville without thinking of the Maroon family. Congratulations to both families. The night will also see the Division winner plaques awarded and the Weekly Award winners drawn. This night will feature food and drinks and a lot of good times. I can’t wait to cap off the season the right way.

April 16th, 2008

This past weekend in Colorado we saw a bunch of MOIHA alumni playing for their schools in the NCRHA National Championships. MOIHA is happy to congratulate Lindenwood University for bringing home the Division 1 and B Division Championships. This is the D1 team’s 7th straight Championship. We would also like to congratulate the University of Missouri-St.Louis on being a finalist in their first year in D1. All three of these teams are stocked with former MOIHA players and represented our area well. Great job!

This week’s weekly winners are Jamie DeMarco, Alex Digirolamo, and the Hill family. Find out why by clicking the link to the right.  As always please feel free to nominate anyone by emailing Ian Mackie at hockey.moiha@gmail.com.

Happy Sunday!

April 6th, 2008

Just a few notes and reminders on a great Sunday night.  The Weekly Winners are Scott Sease, Hazelwood West, and Gary Beachler.  Make sure to check out why these three won this week in the Weekly Winners tab on the right.  Now on to a few notes…

First, the swing situation is simple.  You get 3 games to swing up and the 4th they are stuck.  Now, one thing we are running into is that scorekeepers showing players playing that did not play.  This is a problem that we need to solve next year or we won’t have the swing rule.  We will work on it.  I just got an email about this issue and I know the player hasn’t played that many games, but the other coach did not.  We will take care of this by next year.

Second, the playoffs are now on pointstreak.  We have a lot of teams that will qualify for the playoffs so please understand that we will have some late games.  I really cannot wait for them to start.

Third, we had a few instances on the floor recently that will cause us to make fighting majors 4 games automatically.  The players will need to meet the board and could face a longer suspension as well.  Please be aware of this and inform your players.

Fourth, all games CAN start 30 minutes early.  Most days and nights we run a little ahead and this makes for earlier games.  The refs will try to make sure you have your team ready so they can start early.  If your full team is not there we will delay a little, but we will start it early.  Please remind all players and coaches.

And finally, MOIHA will be sending notices to all teams on the probation players that needed to show improvement.  If the player has not shown progress then then will need to sit out games until they show improvement.  This email will come tomorrow.

Good luck to all the local college teams heading off to the NCRHA Nationals in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Bring home some hardware and have fun.
