2018 PLAYOFFS: ROAD TO THE SEMIFINALS
Fenton, MO - 64 Teams started the week looking for a chance to compete for one of the nine state championships. By Saturday night, nine teams will be crowned the 2018 MOIHA state champions! Tonight we head into the semifinals for each division so lets see how we got there!
Junior High 3
In the JH3 quarterfinal games there wasn’t much excitement as both games ended with 10-0 scores as #4 Fort Zumwalt North defeated #5 Columbia White and #3 Fort Zumwalt South was victorious over #6 Northwest. With those victories, it sets up semifinal matchups with #1 Holt taking on #4 FZN and #2 Francis Howell Central facing off against #3 FZS.
Junior High 2
The JH2 division looks to be exciting to the end. In the first round matchups #8 Columbia Blue defeated #9 Affton to advance to the quarterfinals where #1 Lindbergh awaited. In the other first round matchup, #10 Rockwood upset #7 Northwest with a 5-4 victory and advanced to the quarterfinals where #2 Fort Zumwalt North awaited the winner.
In the quarterfinals, top seed #1 Lindbergh narrowly escaped an upset as they defeated #8 Columbia Blue 5-4 and #4 Seckman took care of business as the defeated #5 Hazelwood 8-4. That would set up a semifinal matchup between #1 Lindbergh and #4 Seckman. On the other side of the bracket, #3 Fort Zumwalt South dominated #6 Francis Howell 11-1 and #2 Fort Zumwalt North escaped with a 2-1 win over #10 Rockwood. #2 FZN and #3 FZS would end up taking each other on in the semifinals.
Only one of the semifinal games took place as #1 Lindbergh defeated #4 Seckman 7-5 to advance to the JH2 championship game. Lindbergh awaits the winner between #2 FZN and #3 FZS.
Junior High 1
The JH1 quarterfinal game was a high scoring contest as #5 Francis Howell defeated #4 Holt by the score of 13-11 and advanced to the semifinals to take on #1 Rockwood. #1 Rockwood would dominate in the semifinal and defeat #5 Francis Howell 12-2. In the other semifinal, #2 Parkway South also took care of business and defeated #3 Fort Zumwalt West 10-3. With those victories, it sets up the JH1 championship game on Saturday as #1 Rockwood will take on #2 Parkway South.
C-Division
The C-Division quarterfinals saw #1 Holt squeak by #8 Northwest 4-3 and #4 Fort Zumwalt North defeated #5 DeSmet White 5-1. On the other side of the bracket, #2 DeSmet Maroon slid by #7 SLUH 7-5 and #3 Fort Zumwalt South defeated #6 Washington 8-2. This sets up semifinal matchups with #1 Holt taking on #4 FZN and #2 DeSmet Maroon facing off against #3 FZS.
Junior Varsity
In the JV quarterfinals we saw #1 Seckman advance with a 7-2 win over #8 Lindbergh and #4 Fort Zumwalt West defeated #5 Francis Howell 8-2. Meanwhile, #7 CBC upset #2 Oakville 5-4 and #3 Rockwood dominated #6 SLUH with a 12-2 victory.
In the semifinal, #3 Rockwood advanced to the championship game as they defeated #7 CBC 10-4 and will await the winner of #1 Seckman and #4 FZW.
Varsity 3
The V3 quarterfinals were interesting as #8 Vianney upset #1 Affton 7-6 and #5 Columbia advanced with a 3-2 victory over #4 Washington. On the other side of the bracket, #2 Francis Howell Central was victorious over #7 St. Marys 9-6 and #3 Fort Zumwalt East was solid in an 11-1 win over #6 Francis Howell. These games would set up semifinal matchups with #5 Columbia taking on #8 Vianney and #2 FHC squaring off against #3 FZE.
Varsity 2
The V2 quarterfinal game saw #5 Lindbergh advance with a 8-6 win over #4 Fort Zumwalt South. The semifinal contests will be #1 Holt taking on #5 Lindbergh and #2 Rockwood facing off against #3 Parkway South.
Varsity 1
In the V1 first round, #8 Fort Zumwalt North defeated #9 Fort Zumwalt West 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals where #1 Oakville waited. #1 Oakville dominated #8 FZN in game one of the series with an 11-1 win and though FZN put together a better game plan for game two, Oakville still came away with the victory and defeated FZN two games to none and advanced to the semifinals. #4 Seckman looked strong in game one against #5 SLUH as they defeated the Jr. Bills 11-7. SLUH would rebound though and defeat Seckman in game two 8-3 to force a game three. SLUH would come through as Christian Berger got the game winner and sent SLUH to the V1 semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, #2 DeSmet dominated #7 Northwest in both games with 7-1 and 13-4 victories to advance to the semis. #6 CBC upset #3 Fox 11-8 and 6-2 to also advance.
This would set up semifinal matchups with #1 Oakville taking on #5 SLUH and #2 DeSmet facing off against #6 CBC. #1 Oakville dominated #5 SLUH in game one as they came away with a 10-1 win and #6 CBC took advantage of some mistakes by #2 DeSmet and won 4-2. Can SLUH and DeSmet win game two and force the game three mini game tonight?!
