MOIHA ALUMNI CAPTURE GOLD IN FARGO!

by Jon Hilke

Fargo, ND – As teams from all over the United States descended on Fargo, ND for the 2018 National Collegiate Roller Hockey Association (NCRHA) national championships; 4 MOIHA alumni made the trip together as part of the defending national champion Lindenwood University D3 team.

Lindenwood’s D3 team was looking for their eighth straight and 14th overall collegiate championship in the last 15 years and would need the help of Chris Dlugos (Oakville), Brad Forshee (Oakville), Jake Abel (Wright City) and Sam Koenig (Rockwood). These four players were major contributors in the Lions quest for another championship and Sam Koenig didn’t disappoint leaving his best game for last. Freshman forward Koenig led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist which included the game winning goal in the third period of the championship game to give the Lions a 4-2 victory over Farmingdale State College. “It was amazing,” Koenig said, “To win a championship my first year and an opportunity to have this feeling three more times is a dream come true.” Head Coach Jon Hilke said, “The way Koenig came in here as a freshman and played like he had been here before was huge for us. I’m excited to see how he develops in the next couple of years because his ceiling is high.”

Many MOIHA players are involved in collegiate roller hockey in the state of Missouri with others traveling beyond the states boundaries to further their education and continue the sport we all love.
On Wednesday, April 25th the 2018 MOIHA All-Star game will take place at the Fenton Forum as representatives from each varsity team will compete for a chance to play the Lindenwood University Lions in an exhibition match to end the night. Keep checking the MOIHA website and social media outlets for more information.
