Commissioner C-19 Update

by Jon Hilke

All,

I hope this message finds you and your families well.  At the start of this month we said that a decision on the 2020 season was targeted for today, May 15, 2020.  We have been reviewing the results of the survey, speaking with some of you that have called or texted and discussing the feedback from various parents in the league in our attempt to make the best decision.  The decision is not straight forward but currently, MOIHA plans on playing out the season during the months of June and July.  This comes with contingencies of course that are out of our control.  Two key areas will need to be addressed before the season can be played.  The first, local shelter in place rules will need to continue to advance to the point we can allow the players, coaches and officials be in the rinks together at a minimum.  Secondly, rink availability is key as without rinks, there is no season.  Local rules to business will also need to adjust so the rinks can open for business.

With this said, we are in communication with the rinks and are working on a revamped schedule as time slots become available.  We provide this information with caution as the situation is evolving and some of our plans to resume the season is presuming shelter rules are relaxed and local rules on businesses do as well.  Once we have a 100% the season can be played, a conference call will be set up for the team managers to attend to discuss the approach that will be taken to ensure the safety of the players, coaches, and officials.  For the teams that cannot play this season, a refund check will be sent once our administrator is allowed back in her office.   We look forward to working with all of you to make this season not only a memorable one, but a successful one!

Regards,

Michael Bell
