6 Champions Crowned at Breakout!

by Jon Hilke

St. Peters, MO – 47 Teams competed for 6 championship titles this past weekend at Midwest Sport Hockey and Vetta 70 (formerly MSG). The Tour Breakout was a huge success and we cannot wait to get the regular season started this Friday!

In the Junior High 2 division, Fort Zumwalt East and Affton both went undefeated in round robin play. In the JH2 quarterfinals, #6 Francis Howell fell to #3 Francis Howell Central and #4 Fort Zumwalt South took down #5 Fort Zumwalt West. That set up #2 Affton taking on #3 FHC and #1 FZE facing off against #4 FZS. FHC Spartans and FZE Lions would move on to the championship game with the Lions taking home the JH2 championship by the score of 7-5.

Three teams went undefeated in round robin play in the Junior High 1 division. Seckman Blue, Francis Howell and Fort Zumwalt North all were a perfect 3-0. In the JH1 quarterfinals, #6 Holt took on #3 FZN and #5 Rockwood Summit matched up against #4 FZW. Both FZN and FZW were victorious and advanced to the semifinal round. In the semis, FZN continued their good play as they defeated #2 Francis Howell, but #1 Seckman Blue was too much for FZW to handle. This left two teams standing for the JH1 championship as the FZN Panthers took on the Seckman Blue Jaguars. The Panthers defeated the Jaguars in a close 3-2 contest.

Five teams competed for a chance at the C-Division championship as all teams played four round robin games and the top two advanced to the championship game. #1 FZW went a perfect 4-0 and #2 FZN went 3-1 to take the top two seeds. In round robin play, the FZW Jaguars defeated the FZN Panthers 2-0. The championship game saw the Jaguars dominate and defeated the Panthers again by the score of 6-2.

In the Junior Varsity division semifinals, #1 Francis Howell dominated #4 Holt and #2 Seckman squeaked by #3 FZW to advance to the JV championship game. Seckman picked up their game in the final as they defeated Francis Howell 5-3.

The Varsity 2 division quarterfinals saw #6 Timberland fall to #3 FZW and #4 DeSmet dominate #5 Affton. Those contest set up the semifinals as #3 FZW upset #2 FZN by the score of 4-3 and #4 DeSmet also upset a higher seed as they defeated #1 Northwest 8-2. The V2 championship game was well played by both teams, as FZW were the ones to come out on top by the score of 5-4 over DeSmet.

The Varsity 1 division quarterfinals saw #6 Vianney fall 8-0 against Francis Howell and Holt get a big overtime winner against FHC. In the semifinals, the #1 ranked team Oakville fell to #4 Holt 6-1 and #2 Parkway South defeated #3 Francis Howell 3-0. The V1 championship was action packed and previewed some great teams as the Holt Indians narrowly defeated the Parkway South Patriots 4-3.

MOIHA would like to thank all teams for participating in the 2020 Tour Breakout. We would also like to thank our sponsor Tour Hockey for all that they do for our league. Stay tuned for the regular season schedule, as it will be posted in the coming days!
